Claremont – Minimal Original
Bold, beautiful and awash with fresh colours of white and blue this notable statement in design was a close collaboration between client and award-winning architect Michael Patroni from Spaceagency. The result an outstanding, original home that maximises light, floor space with minimal maintenance and highly detailed throughout.
Located in Claremont, just up the road from the hub of Claremont’s shopping and café scene, this sunfilled freestanding apartment, built over four floors boasts 500sqm of living space on 380sqm of land, with plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces.
The rooftop accesses city views, glimpses of the river and is an ideal place to entertain.
Subtle texture and materials emanate calmness and luxury.
The glass-walled swimming pool is a visually bold feature from the streetscape and one of its kind in Perth when built.
Walk to the river, Christ Church, MLC and the Claremont precinct.
I was lucky enough to walk through this one-of-a-kind home with the passionate owner. We discussed his design process and highlights of the house.
Where did you develop your design aesthetic?
I’ve travelled extensively to Japan and Europe for business and on holidays. While away I’ve experienced Japanese modernist architecture and accumulated many books along the way.
How did you determined your brief to the architect or did you work together to achieve your prime objectives?
I showed many examples of Japanese modernism and cubism to Michael that I wanted to incorporate into the front and back of the home.
What’s your favourite room & feature in the house?
The love the rooftop terrace for many reasons. It’s an ideal place for the day-to-day wind down or casual to cocktail entertaining events.
Describe a typical weekend and the best spots within the home?
Friday night we usually walk into the centre of Claremont to join friends for dinner.
Saturday starts with a morning dip, followed by breakfast on the alfresco reading the paper. Before going to Mount Claremont markets to buy supplies for the week ahead.
We may invite guests over for a BBQ in summer while the kids swim then watch a movie downstairs.
Sunday varies depending on the weather. We might take the boat out that’s moored at Claremont Yacht Club. Or laze around at home and catching up with work.
What’s the best thing about living in Claremont?
Long walks beside the river with our dog, the cafés and walking to dinner in Claremont on Friday nights! The ease of transport for the kids means we don’t need to drive them everywhere!
