Micktric – Electric Mix
I originally found Micktric Events on Instagram. I was fascinated by the image of stylist Meghan Plowman’s wedding where the bride and groom where wrapped in illuminated light bulbs kissing – it was a spectacular composition.
I tracked him down and asked him the following about his work as maestros of Micktric Events.
Tell us something about you?
I am a huge fan of Hill Top Hoods and I always have music on while working, I usually have a motto that I work until the music stops!
What is Micktric Events & how did you get into lighting design?
Micktric Events is a Perth based Wedding and event lighting supplier with a focus on creating custom designed lighting that is an alternative to the traditional ” coloured stage lighting” I kind of fell into it when I planned to light my own wedding and it really just took off from there
Name a couple of career highlights or events that stand out?
The highlight so far would be working on the hidden sound with the best creatives in Perth – Jarrad Seng and Jessica butcher (the butcher baker stylist), and not to mention Kate miller Heidke, also working on “noodle palace” for fringe world with the guys from jump climb has been a pretty satisfying event.
Who or what inspires you within your work?
I guess the fact of really loving my work keeps me inspired and receiving feed back from clients letting me know that my lighting had made the night. I think having an electrical background to think outside the box helps considerably.
What creative brief or collaboration would be a dream job?
[Think in an ideal situation – a person, venue, event. It can be global or local!] I think that job was the hidden sound, I got on board not thinking much about it and not realising how big it was going to get and then it just exploded, tickets sold out in one day and before I new it I was lighting a stage for Kate Miller Heidke. The Venue being an unused concrete room at “MANY” Fremantle, old Myer building
Where do you like to hang out in Perth?
I have always been into Mt Lawley even as a 18 year old, we would be hanging out at Must bar or the Brisbane Hotel
What would you like to see happen in Perth?
I think its already starting to happen, Perth is moving into a really cool place to live, there is always something going on and I think that has a lot to do with the smaller creatives that live in this amazing city of ours
